As instructors, coaches, personal trainers and fitness professionals, it's our job to motivate and push our clients to the limit. So, inevitably this leads to some degree of injury. Afterall, before coming to us, most of our client's were usually walking or driving to work and then spending the evening in front of the TV. Then they come to us and move in ways that they haven't done for years. But if there are any dysfunctions within their body (which are usually caused by our sedentary lifestyles) then pushing themselves through fitness is only going to amplify these dysfunctions and hence injuries happen.
So please…if you are going to get into fitness, realise that you will come across injuries and setbacks at some point. We all do. I do. And when this does happen, then is the time to drop the pride and ego and spend some time on sorting out your body's mechanics (actually the preference is before you start with fitness but I appreciate that this isn't always the case). And once you do, then you can get back into fitness.
Yes it's frustrating. But it's life. Shit happens. And if it keeps happening then what do you do? Do you stop doing the things you enjoy? Hell no. You get help. You work out why these things are happening and then you correct them.
You stop being so stubborn and you ask for help.
This isn't quitting or giving up. This is about looking after the most important person in your life….you.
After all…what's your other option? Stop moving? Stop running? Stop bending over? Stop picking your kids or playing with your grandchildren?
I think not. So, ask for help. There really is no shame in that!
